13. The Haunted Shipwreck

13

Tell a tale of the high seas with a hauntingly beautiful mantel inspired by a ghostly shipwreck lost to the depths of the ocean. This coastal-gothic theme is incredibly unique and perfect for those who love nautical decor with a dark twist. Start by draping a dusty green or gray fishnet across the mantel, letting it hang down unevenly over the fireplace opening. Weave in bits of faux seaweed, dried Spanish moss, and driftwood branches that look as though they have been bleached by salt and sun.

Place nautical treasures along the shelf: a tarnished brass ship’s wheel, a dusty compass, old glass message bottles filled with rolled-up, tea-stained maps, and encrusted barnacle-covered shells. Incorporate spooky elements like a pirate skull wearing a tricorn hat, or skeletal hands reaching out from behind the driftwood. Use mercury glass candle holders in shades of seafoam green and deep blue, holding white pillar candles. When lit, the reflective glass will mimic the shimmering, watery light of the deep ocean, creating a mesmerizing and eerie coastal vibe.
