13. Grim Reaper Rowing Charon’s Boat
Transform your front lawn or a dry creek bed into the mythical River Styx. Set up a vintage wooden rowboat or construct a simple silhouette of a skiff from dark-painted cardboard. Inside the boat, place a life-sized skeleton dressed in the tattered, hooded black robes of Charon, the ferryman of the underworld. Have him holding a long wooden oar, poised as if navigating turbulent waters. Fill the bottom of the boat and the surrounding ground with a thick blanket of low-lying fog produced by a fog machine. Scatter faux glowing skulls and blue LED string lights beneath the fog to simulate the restless souls trapped beneath the water’s surface.
