4. Spooky Silhouette Window Cutouts

4

Turn your entire house into a living shadow box with spooky silhouette window cutouts. This high-impact, low-cost decoration uses the interior lights of your home to project dramatic, ominous shapes to the outside world. From the street, it will look as though giant spiders, creeping monsters, or Victorian ghosts are lurking inside your rooms, making your home the talk of the neighborhood as dusk settles.

All you need for this project is heavy black poster board or black butcher paper, a pencil, scissors, and painter’s tape. Draw or trace large, menacing shapes—such as a witch stirring her cauldron, a howling wolf, a colony of bats, or reaching tree branches—onto the black paper. Cut them out carefully and tape them directly to the inside of your window panes. When night arrives, turn on the lights in those specific rooms and pull down sheer white curtains or blinds behind the silhouettes to diffuse the light, creating a crisp, theatrical contrast that looks incredibly professional.
