9. Creeping Wire-Hanger Bats

9

Bring your walls or outdoor trees to life with a colony of creeping wire-hanger bats. This project is incredibly cost-effective and utilizes simple materials to create a sense of dynamic movement. Instead of static wall stickers, these bats have a three-dimensional quality, with wings that bend and shadows that shift as people walk past, making it feel as though a swarm of bats is actively descending upon your home.

To make these, reshape old wire coat hangers into elongated bat wing shapes, or simply use black cardstock with wire glued along the wings’ edges to allow for custom bending. Cover the wire frames with black tissue paper, fabric, or thin craft foam, securing them with hot glue. Bend the wings slightly forward to give them a realistic, mid-flight contour. Use removable mounting putty or clear fishing line to attach them to your walls in a sweeping, diagonal pattern, starting dense near a doorway or fireplace and scattering out as they reach the ceiling.
